When do designers show their collections

Fashion is business. Remember that the designer has the right to choose for himself how many seasons he should do. Sometimes the seasonality depends on the potential buyer of the brand. In general, when the buyer is clear, everything falls into place with seasonality. Sometimes a collection of clothes does not have the goal of becoming massive, popular and mega-flexible.

Sometimes the capsule is released once a month. A great example is the 12storeez brand concept. They release 12 capsules a year because they decided that. How many fashion collections to produce: lessons for beginner designers. Retail being the competitive industry it is, the concept of twice-yearly shows soon emerged, to feed the growing interest and demand of fashion-conscious women and the businesses who sold to them.

Today, the big and lesser names in fashion hold twice-yearly shows of their upcoming collections. Paris is the home of the haute couture collections.

This is a phrase we use freely, but Haute Couture is actually a protected term in France. Only brands that meet strict criteria can describe their collections this way. Despite being driven by creativity, the fashion industry is, in business terms, actually pretty conventional. So it was seen as quite innovative when some designers started breaking the rules, and showcased their range between the two defined seasons.

These became known as the Pre-collections, and would often be the ready to wear range for a designer, before the launch of the more exclusive pieces. The term cruise and resort came about because the wealthiest fashion house clients would pick up these styles to use on their holidays.

As American designer Derek Lam explained to Instyle magazine a couple of years ago,. In a world where international travel has become affordable and you may be in several different countries over a single year, just from a weather perspective there is much more need for clothes that are less dependent on time of year.

Fashion's retail calendar is a lot different from the traditional calendar. Retailers like to start selling spring clothes early. Fall merchandise arrives in stores around July, to catch back-to-school shoppers. When a new season comes in, you'll notice the prior season will generally go on sale. All of these tactics are used to maximize sales. Resort season can be especially confusing. It's wintertime and retailers are selling warm-weather clothes. Resort was initially started to cater to the wealthy who would take luxurious trips to exotic destinations during the winter months.

This trend started with luxury brands and high-end stores, but has trickled down to many mass-market retailers. While people who shop mass-market retailers probably aren't jet-setting to a fancy isle, there is still logic behind this idea. Selling four seasons worth of clothes doesn't cost retailers any more but does give shoppers even more selection to choose from, which translates into more income for retailers.

Here's when things get confusing again.
